The former have their chosen homeland in the artisan shops of Scapoli where the cultural association “Circolo della Zampogna” has been operating for thirty years. Accredited by UNESCO as a consultant for the protection of intangible cultural heritage, the association was the creator of the International Bagpipe Festival which is held in the small mainardic center on the last weekend of July each year and has, among other activities, established since 1991 of the Permanent Exhibition of Italian and foreign bagpipes still regularly open. The Civic Museum (International Museum of the bagpipe “P: Vecchione”) dedicated to the pastoral instrument has also been opened in the same municipality since 2002.
The bufù, a friction drum which in Molise can also reach large dimensions, is mainly rooted in Sepino and Casacalenda where a museum has been dedicated to it.
